January 2016

Dear EquipU Users,

Happy 2016! We pray that during this new year you and your ministry will Glorify and Honor God in all that you do. We praise the Lord that you have allowed us to be a part of your ministry.

Notes From Our Staff

With the move, we have a new invoice address for you to note as our old invoice address will no longer work. Please send payments to our new address at: 207 Center Park Drive; Suite 2090, Knoxville, TN 37922.

If you receive our voicemail message, please feel free to leave a voicemail message including your name, question, phone number, and how late we can return the call.

Club Service Projects

Consider adding Service Projects to your Kids 4 Truth Club. Service projects can take place during your Kids 4 Truth Club meeting or can take place on an additional day depending upon the activity you plan to do. If you do a service project during your club meeting, simply replace your activity time (review or gym game) with your service project. Ideas for service projects are endless, but we will list a few to give you some ideas.

During Club Night Projects:

·         Decorate Christmas Cookies and Serve - Decorate cookies, set up a refreshment table and serve cookies to your adult choir during their Christmas Cantata Rehearsal. This would be a welcome treat and surprise to the choir, allows the children to see Christmas “outside of themselves”, and lets the choir know you appreciate all the time and effort they put into ministering to your church each week. (Cookies could be decorated during club instead of activity time, and one could add the option of allowing the children to serve the cookies to the adults. An added advantage to this is that it encourages the children to come to the rehearsal IF your children are participating in the Christmas Cantata.)

·         Make and Send Cards - Make and send cards to: Veterans, Active Military Personnel, Pastors, Senior Saints, Parents, or Sunday School Teachers.

·         Prepare a Service - Have children prepare a special service for the adults. Some of the older children could lead songs, have the children sing some songs they have prepared as special music, have children recite some of the Kids 4 Truth Memory work, share testimonies, have children share key points they have learned in Kids 4 Truth, and end with a special devotional either focused on a gospel message (if you believe unsaved parents will be there) or perhaps a devotional on raising children.

·         Toy Drive - Have children bring new toys or gently used toys that can be given to children in need or the church nursery/preschool department. After toys are brought, they can be sorted according to age appropriate levels and distributed to needy church families, unchurched families in the area, church nursery/preschool, or a local charity.

·         Food or Clothing Drive - Have children collect and sort food for a food drive for either your church or a charity. You can choose needy families in your church and fill their pantry.

Outside Club Night Projects:

·         Rake Leaves for Widows or Senior Saints - Go out in small groups to the homes of widows or senior saints to rake and bag their leaves. You may want to suggest that the children bring rakes if they have them.

·         Clean Church - This is most likely a Saturday activity, but take time to help deep clean some rooms/areas around the church (inside or outside).

·         Nursing Home Ministry - Prepare songs and memory work to present as a program at a local nursing home.

·         Car Wash - While the Senior Saints have their monthly luncheon at the church, wash their cars in the parking lot free of charge.

·         Toy Wash - Have the children wash all the toys and then have a worker sanitize them for the nursery and preschool classes. This is especially helpful during the winter months when cold and flu viruses are so prevalent with this age group.

Straw TumblerOne of my favorite non-curriculum products from Kids 4 Truth is the straw tumbler. I have one in every color and use it every day because if my cup would tip over it has a lid and I wouldn’t have tea all over my computer. I especially enjoy using it when I am driving as using the straw tumbler allows me to keep my eyes on the road and not blocked by a travel mug. The 24-ounce straw tumbler comes in four colors: clear/royal, clear/orange, clear/red, and clear/lime.

Tic Tac Toe: Place or Take

Items Needed

·         4 long strips

·         2 Game Pieces shapes - 6 copies each (full bodies of Zeek and Zebedee)

·         3 additional game shape pieces - 6 copies each (faces of Zeek, Zebedee, and Zachariah)

·         Flannel board or dry erase/chalk board (magnetic backing)

·         Velcro Strips or Magnet Strips

·         Marker, Dry Erase marker, or Vis-à-vis Marker

·         Tip: laminate the game pieces with lamination film or clear contact paper so that you can use the same pieces over and over. When you do this use either Vis-à-vis or dry erase marker to write on the back.

Preparing for the Game

·         Laminate all game pieces if desired so that you can reuse them over and over.

·         Glue Velcro or Magnet strips to the back of each piece so that they will hang on either the flannel or dry erase/chalk board.

·         Write out trivia questions that go along with the TruthTime lesson and the memory work the children are working on or have learned.

·         Write one of the following on the back of the 3 additional game shape pieces (18 total).

o    9 = Place

o    9 = Take

·         Option: instead of using these game pieces pick a worker to say Place or Take once a child answers a question correctly.

Playing the game

·         Divide the children into two teams

·         You will ask questions to the group as a whole and have them jump to answer - first up (who has not answered yet or not answered a “given number” yet) gets to answer the question no matter what team he/her is one.

·         If the answer is incorrect, a child from the other team gets to answer. Rotate teams until you receive a correct answer.

·         When correct, the child gets to choose a shape from the left side of the tic tac toe board and follow the instructions on the back of the shape. Either PLACE their piece on the Tic Tac Toe board, or TAKE one of the other team’s piecs off of the Tic Tac Toe board.

o    Note: Instead of using game pieces, pick a worker to say PLACE or TAKE when a child answers a question correctly. Have the worker play “fair” but keep the competition close.

·         Ask the next question and continue until one team gets three in a row to win.

Remember: You as the leader can a choose who can answer, place or take a piece, or allow a team to have an extra turn or lose a turn as needed to maintain control of the children during the review game.

·         TAKE away pieces if:

o    The children do not come to attention when you call them to attention or for the next question.

o    The children boo the other team.

o    Unsportman-like behavior.

·         PLACE an extra piece if:

o    The children on the team come to attention first.

o    The children on the team is the quietest and paying attention.

o    Good Sportmanship.

Note: using whatever reason you think of to keep the point totals close so that the game stays exciting for everyone and doesn’t discourage children on the losing team. Remember, you are a dictator for the game - what you say is fair, correct, and rules. You want the best for everyone...so to keep it exciting for all.

“All Glory Be To You” Music CD"All Glory Be To You," music cd features the twelve original Kids 4 Truth songs about God. Psalm 78 Message - God’s Thoughts about the Next Generation – Part 3

Bob Roberts, Kids 4 Truth President/Director

Finally, Let’s conclude by looking at Psalm 78:7-8.

God Gives Us Glorious Reasons as to WHY we must Pass this Heritage on to the Next Generation (Psalm 7-8)

Psalm 78:7-8

7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

So that they Might Hope In God! God reveals Himself through His truth. He alone is the object of true faith.

But Doctrine really isn’t practical, is it? – It is through doctrine that we come to know God. I am in the Kingdom today because of pride-stripping, God-exalting doctrine. James 1:18 – “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth.”  (KJV)

Doctrine is the foundation of our salvation. We are saved, by God’s grace, as we believe the right things. John 17:3-“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” (KJV)

Doctrine is the foundation of our sanctification. We grow, by God’s grace, as we believe the right things.  2 Peter 1:3-“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:” (KJV)

One illustration would be looking at cults. They believe the wrong things about God. They don’t believe rightly. The object of their faith is a phantom. They have a form of godliness, but no power because they don’t know God.

We do not know God without good doctrine. The kind of faith that saves comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

God demands to be acknowledged in Spirit and in TRUTH. John 4:24

·         So That they Might Keep God’s Commandments. Hoping in God produces a change.

·         Materialism / Comfort-driven / lacksadasical / we want radical Christians! The foundation for this is faith in God. The foundation of faith is the Word. Doctrine.

·         Ephraim’s failure is recent history for the Psalmist.

·         God’s miracles deliverance is distant history.

·         If we don’t learn from the past, we’re destined to repeat it!

·         Sum up the rest of the book

·         Doctrine is the foundation.

·         God’s mandate is for us to ground boys and girls in His Truth.

·         We are putting boys and girls in the way for God to bless.

Through the rest of Psalm 78, we see vivid examples of what happened when people forgot their God, and how God graciously helped them to remember Him. Be God-exalting and man-minimizing! Be honest with the children.

God’s magnificent faithfulness is contrasted with man’s miserable failings. Psalm 78:7 – hoping in God (having faith in Him) produces changed lives. Keeping His commandments!

"So far as they can be taught by word of mouth, or learned by the hearing of the ear, we are to communicate the faith and fear of God, inculcating upon the rising generation the principles and practices of piety. This verse may be the address to every Sabbath-school teacher to his class, of every parent to his children. It is not without instruction in the art of teaching. We should be winning and attractive to the youngsters, bidding them "come," and not repelling them with harsh terms. We must get them away, apart from toys and sports, and try to occupy their minds with better pursuits; for we cannot well teach them while their minds are full of other things. We must drive at the main point always, and keep the fear of the Lord ever uppermost in our teachings, and in so doing we may discreetly cast our own personality into the scale by narrating our own experiences and convictions" – Spurgeon

Children’s Leaders Advice - September 2015

Marrena Ralph, Clubs Program Administrator

Effective Memory Techniques

We know that each child is unique, and as unique as each child is they memorize in different ways. Some need activity as they memory, others need total silence, some need visuals, and still others need repetition. This month, we would like to give you both some individual and group memory techniques. We recommend that you share these techniques with the parents at your ministry.

·         Individual Techniques

o    Say the verse at least 5 times every morning and 5 times before you go to bed.

o    Put the verse on a card and tape it on your bathroom mirror.  While you are brushing your teeth, combing your hair, or washing your hands read through it several times.

o    Say the verse in as many funny ways as you can think of.  Say it real loud, real soft, real high, real low, sound like a mouse, sound like a bear, etc. [Parents & Workers: this can be done in a group setting by having the children repeat the phrase or verse just as you say it.  We call this “You Say What I Say” and it is basically a verbal Simon Says Game.]

o    Sing the verse.  (You can sing it normal, high, low, opera style, western style, country style, bluegrass style, formally, etc.)

o    Say the verse in a rhyme fashion.

o    Hop on one leg and say the verse…now march around the room and say the verse…waddle like a duck…swim like a fish… leap like a frog...  Make this even more fun by making your voice sound like the animal you are imitating as you say the verse.

o    Review the verses/questions at breakfast time, supper time or bed time.  Even better try to have them do this more than one time a day.

o    Using a dry erase board or a dry erase marker on a sliding glass door (children should ask parents first – if it is a dry erase marker it will erase) write the verse out…start by erasing a few words…Now say the verse…try erasing a few more words and say it again…keep going until you have erased all the words and can say the entire verse.

o    Make an audio tape or CD of the “Memorize It” sections by saying it over and over.  Play this while the child is playing, doing chores, or going to bed.

·         Group Techniques

o    Read the verse and stop before saying a word or phrase…the children should respond with the word (s) that fit in the blank.  Make the blanks longer and longer as you continue to review the Q&A.

o    Make up signs for different words or phrases in the verse. [Parents & Workers: We allow the children to choose signs as a group.  We rarely use traditional sign language for this.]

o    Say the verse in as many funny ways as you can think of.

[This is great for pre-school age children as it gets rid of energy, is educational and fun all at the same time.

It’s All About God! - September 2015

Psalm 78 Message - God’s Thoughts about the Next Generation – Part 2

Let’s continue by looking at the next three verses of Psalm 78.

Our Heritage Comes With An Obligation. (vs. 4-6)

Our heritage comes with an obligation to teach the next generation about God. Psalm 78:4-6:

4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: (KJV)

It’s easy to look at passages like this and Deuteronomy 6 and see that God’s people in the Old Testament had a God-given mandate to teach the next generation. But is all this applicable for us today? What is the difference between us and them?

We have more light about Who God is than they did. The people in the Old Testament had the Law. We have knowledge of the One Who has perfectly fulfilled the Law! We don’t look ahead to God fulfilling His promises. We look at those promises fulfilled in the Person of Christ. God has revealed Himself in the Person of Jesus Christ.

If God was passionate then about His people teaching truth about Him, He is passionate about it now as well. If any generation of God’s people should be passionately and actively infusing the next generation with truth – it’s us! We have more light.

Spurgeon realized this. He said regarding this passage of Scripture “It is the duty of the church of God to maintain, in fullest vigor, every agency intended for the religious education of the young; to them we must look for the church of the future, and as we sow towards them so shall we reap.”

Unfortunately, it’s not just Christians that have felt an obligation to indoctrinate the young. . .

·         Vladimir Lenin said “Give me your four year olds, and in a generation I will build a socialist state.”

·         “Give me the children until they are seven years old, and anyone may take them afterwards.” – said Francis Xavier, one of the founders of the Jesuits

·         H. Clay Trumbull, in a massive survey of indoctrinating youth, recalled this conversation in the 1800s: A Roman Catholic priest was visiting an Episcopal bishop of the United States. The Episcopal bishop was supposed to be Protestant and the priest said to him, “What a poor foolish people you Protestants are. You leave the children until they are grown up, possessed of the devil, and then go out reclaiming them with horse, foot, and dragoons. We Catholics, on the other hand, know that the children are as plastic or clay in our hands. We quietly devote ourselves first to them. When they are well instructed and trained we have little to fear for the future.”

I wonder if we really understand the urgency to indoctrinate our youth – because if we don’t, somebody else will. God has given us a heritage of truth . . . this heritage comes with an obligation.

Adding Fun & Excitement

Marrena Ralph, Kids 4 Truth Clubs Program Administrator

Thermometer Race/Fill the Graphic

Create extra excitement and motivation adding a fun short-term entire club game/goal to your program.

The group works together toward the goal of winning a club wide prize such as Popsicle Night, Snow Cones, or Pizza Party. This is a great way to create excitement, motivation, and interest in the program without leaving anyone out. Even a visitor or academically challenged child will feel a part of this activity.

Supplies Needed:

·         Printed Graphic with grid or lines - You can find the K4T thermometer and/or graphic grid at: http://equipu.kids4truth.com/files/folders/review_games/default.aspx.

·         Markers – to match graphic or to fill in thermometer lines.

·         Prize - The prize options are endless so use something that will motivate and reward your children that will not eat up your ministry budget!

Instructions:

·         Name Your Game – this adds interest and excitement!

·         Make enough lines/grid blocks so that the game is a challenge and takes several weeks/month to accomplish but make sure it is obtainable and not overwhelming to the children.

o    A good goal is to use the amount of time you study a doctrinal theme.

o    You may need to determine your point or grid amounts first in order to know how many lines/grid blocks you need.

·         Keep your ultimate goal in mind as you choose which items children can earn points/grid blocks for. You may want to add all items below if you are after general excitement or you may want to focus on just the item where you want to see your children improve.

o    Memorize a Truth

§  Memorize Q&A - If this is your main focus you may want to allow 2 blocks to be filled for each Truth recited

§  Retain Memory Work = Recite a Review Unit – 5 at a time

§  For each Patch Earned

o    Responsibility (Fill in the blanks as the children arrive and have an official time keeper who lets you know when time is up.)

§  Arrive on Time

§  Bring Club Supplies – Bible, TruthBook, Award Standard

o    Bring a visitor

·         Determine Points or Grid Block Amounts that are earned for each item accomplished.

o    Mark amounts on your printed graphic so children clearly see what amounts they earn for each item. If using thermometer, mark each line. You can easily do this on the computer and print it out so it is neat and readable.

o    You can add a shape around it to boost excitement factor.

o    Add graphics of their prize around the printed graphic so that they can visualize their reward.

·         Fill in the Graphic as the children earn points or grid blocks. You can do this as they come in each service, as they recite the memory work, or at the end of the service. Doing before the children leave adds excitement as they see what they accomplished that night.

·         Announcements & Reminders

o    Send home reminder flyers

o    Create a facebook group or email list and notify parents directly.

§  You can use this for anything club related not just for this game.

§  This keeps parents in the loop!

·         Be prepared to reward either the night the prize is earned or the very next week! This is much more effective than waiting until later as the children will be more excited and want to earn it faster.

·         MOST IMPORTANTLY: Have fun and be excited about the game! Even if you choose a lousy name or inexpensive prize, if you are excited, the children will be excited.

Communication with Parents

There are many ways that you can keep in touch with the parents of the children that you minister with. We will investigate a few of these ways, but know that in our high tech world there are many additional ways you can communicate with parents. The beauty of using technology to your advantage is that flyers do not get lost or forgotten. You KNOW that the message went to your parents. Remind your parents to be sure to check for announcements the way you choose to communicate.

·         Gather Information: Use registration cards or detailed attendance sheets to gather information such as email addresses, home addresses, and phone numbers from your parents. This gives you information you need if you want to send an email, postcard, or give a parent a phone call.

·         Email Group: If your email client allows, create an email distribution list of all of the email addresses of your parents. This will allow you to email announcements, notices (snow day), or flyers direct to the parent.

·         Facebook Page: Create a facebook page for your Kids 4 Truth Club, Sunday School Class, or Children Church Class. Use this page to post announcements and to keep in contact with your parents and children.

·         Texting: Texting is a great way to send a quick note or reminder to a parent. It comes in very handy when you have a challenging child and a parent who wants to stay on top of issues they are working with. A quick text to the parent lets them know you need them to come help in the class and allows them to possibly see what their child is doing as you never had to leave the classroom to get the parent.

·         Flyers/Posters: Colorful flyers and postcards capture the attention of children. It can also be a helpful reminder to parents. Remember to hand these out as the children exit instead of mid-way through the service. This will ensure the children leave the class with the flyer.

·         Communication Cards/flyers: This helpful weekly flyer will show parents what the child did during the service and what they need to work on for the next service.

·         TruthCard Trackers: Handy little cards that you can use the check off the memory work the child has accomplished. Print these on the back of the name card for easy access.

·         TruthBook Signoff Page: Be sure your workers sign each unit as the child passes it and fills out the final sign-off page at the back of each doctrinal theme as the children earn patches. Teach the parents how to look at these pages to see where their child is in the TruthBooks.

·         Parent Meeting: Plan a parent meeting at the beginning of the year to show/teach the parent how you plan to use the curriculum and share with them how you plan to communicate with them. This will keep everyone on the same page and keep your parents happy. Be sure to give your parent either an email address or phone number so they have a way to reach you if they have questions. Happy parents will bring their children back!

Psalm 78 Message - God’s Thoughts about the Next Generation – Part 1

If God’s thoughts about children were a city, the tallest skyscrapers in that city would be Psalm 78 and Deuteronomy 6. In the next few months I want to convince you beyond any shadow of a doubt, from Psalm 78, that God wants His people to be actively and passionately teaching the next generation wonderful truth or doctrine about Him for His glory and for their good.

Let’s begin by looking at the first 3 verses of Psalm 78.

1Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. (KJV)

We discover that…

God’s People Have a Heritage of Truth / Teachings (vs. 1-3)

These are God’s Words. These are God’s thoughts. My people and my law… God is speaking through the Psalmist through inspiration. Psalm 78:1

Verse two uses of a couple words/terms that are unfamiliar to some of us:

·         Parable: The psalmist informs his audience that he is going to speak in a parable, similar to what Jesus did centuries later. But the Hebrew word for parable, mashal, means more than that. The Hebrew Book of Proverbs is the Book of Mashals.  A mashal was any form of teaching that would help the hearer to “see” with his mind’s eye. In other words, the Psalmist’s intent is to meaningfully teach important teachings. He desires to stir up understanding in his hearers. He doesn’t just want to rehearse facts – he wants these facts to come alive in the hearts and minds of his audience through understanding.

·         DARK SAYINGS – This could be translated “secrets” or “riddles.” I believe these dark sayings are referring to teachings that only make sense when viewed through eyes of faith. To the lost world, Christian teachings are foolish because they do not have faith. They truly are DARK sayings to the lost. The world says: “I’ll believe it when I see it!” Jesus says; believe it and you shall truly see! It is only through faith in God that we can have real understanding. Hebrews 11:3 - Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. I believe the intent of the Psalmist is to teach the truth in light of God. Oh may we never miss God. May we see everything through God-colored lenses.

I once heard an evangelist say that he felt the greatest thing he could do for a person was to show them his sin. I believe the greatest thing we can do for people is to show them GOD. As we look through Psalm 78, we see the Psalmist magnifying God and minimizing man. The precious heritage of teachings that he sought to pass on were primarily about GOD.

In verse 3, we see that this heritage of teachings has been passed down successfully, as God had commanded in Deuteronomy 6. God has given His people a heritage of truth.

I have heard people say, “I don’t feel I have any right to impose my religious beliefs upon my children.” I believe this is my most important task as a parent or worker with children. If I don’t pass my religious beliefs on to my children, someone else will.

By His grace, God has given us a heritage of the most precious teachings that will ever exist. And He wants us to pass it on to the next generation.  (KJV)

Adding Fun & Excitement

Crazy Summer Fun!

One of events the children at my church look forward to each year is Crazy Summer Fun! During the summer months we add more active opening games, review games, allow the children to dress up each week, and add refreshments (normally snow cones) on some nights. We have found this is a great way to combat other activities such as sport events, theme parks, picnics, etc. that are taking your children's attention away from church attendance.

Starting A Children’s Club/Program

A common question we receive is how do I start a Kids 4 Truth Club at my local church? Is it difficult and how long should I allow for training my workers, receiving supplies, and promoting the club? These are great questions, and we would love to share some ideas with you.

The best place to start when preparing to begin Kids 4 Truth is to download our Director’s StartUp Manual. This manual walks one through setting up a program with worksheets, flow charts, tutorials, and valuable information. Additional helpful items for running a Kids 4 Truth program is available to download free of charge on our EquipU site. This free site includes 240 teacher lesson plans, attendance and memory record sheets, training tutorials, predesigned artwork posters & fliers, craft and coloring pages, and much more.

When transitioning from another club, we find the easiest transitions happen when a church simply plucks out one curriculum & awards system and replaces it with the new curriculum & awards system. Leave your schedule and any extras in place that the workers and children are already accustomed to using. Once you have made the change with new curriculum & awards, then you can slowly change any other areas/items you wish to change. This would include changing a schedule from having a gym/activity time to having review game time or choir time, having awards with an award points store to just having award patches, or changing around the nightly schedule so that events happen in a different order or with different groups. By not changing everything that people who were comfortable with at one time, a slow change allows people to get comfortable with the change without feeling like they lost everything they liked before or they no longer know their job/tasks.

We recommend that you allow at least a month to prepare the start of your Kids 4 Truth Club. This allows you time to work through the Director’s StartUp Manual, plan how you want to use the curriculum, train your workers, place and receive your order, and promote your new program to children, workers, and parents. Any additional time allows you to be even more prepared to begin and depending on your ministry’s operating procedures can be very beneficial.

Orders placed with Kids 4 Truth are processed in the order in which they are received, and we recommend that during the months of July to October you allow 3-4 weeks delivery time as these are our busiest months of the year. If you need an order faster, we recommend that you contact our office so that we can work with you to satisfy your needs. Please do not simply choose next day or second day as these shipping methods do not include order processing time during our busy season.

We have several options available for those who want assistance in training their workers. These options include: free online PowerPoint tutorials, Phone Conferences, Video Conferences (Skype or Google), Webinar Training Events, and Live Training Events/Seminars.

We encourage and welcome you to contact our office and speak with any of our representatives at 866-754-4272 or clubs@kids4truth.com. Part of our job is to assist churches in setting up the program for their local church, understanding the flexible scenarios and creating a scenario unique to their church’s needs, training their director or workers, and placing their order(s). We are happy to set appointments outside of normal business hours as we realize many leaders of a program have a full time job to work outside the church.

Delight & the Happy Person – Part 3

Your Flesh, the Devil, and the world work overtime to keep you from delighting in God’s Word!

What are some things that would keep us from delighting in God’s Word?

We might wonder why our attitude toward Scripture does not reflect the attitude of the Psalmist, or the apostle Paul, or David Brainerd. To get to the heart of that matter we need to ask ourselves the question what are we delighting in? Because if we’re not in verse 2 delighting, we’re probably somewhere in verse 1 delighting. You will delight in something, and you don’t have an unlimited supply of delight to give.

Something I did recently was to sit down and really think and write down those things that have found a place of delight in my heart. Here are some things that had made the list…

1. sleep

2. e-mailing

3. stereo equipment

What this forced me to do was honestly evaluate how I was spending my affections. I was, and continue to be very humbled by this list. Because these things look so puny compared to God.

I remember walking into my house one night, looking over at my stereo equipment and thinking about how good that stuff really was. And I remember I took great pleasure in just thinking about the high-quality stuff that I owned, and in that moment it seemed like God said to me: “Bob, what are you delighting in?

Unhappy Christians love, but they love the wrong things. Colossians 3:2 - Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (KJV)

Why don’t I want to come to church? Why don’t I want to read the Bible? Why don’t I want to pray?

It is because you’re using all your delight up on something else! What is that?

Testimony: Not too long ago I went away for a while. One of the main reasons I went was because I wanted to renew my relationship with God. At first really getting into the Word of God was laborious. But I noticed that I began looking forward to that quiet time, and I was amazed at the amount of time I was really enjoying just being with God. God was blessing me with an attitude of delight as I simply put myself in the way.

To love the Word of God with real delight is the normal Christian experience! That’s what really satisfies! I believe I’ve quickly and briefly tasted what it means to be blessed with this attitude of delight. There’s nothing better! I want more of it! God gives sweet treasure to those who will dig for it. Do you believe that? Do you believe that there are precious joys for you in God’s Word that are better and sweeter than the other things you are currently receiving joy from?

What does the verse say about the person who delights in God’s Law? It says that he will meditate therein day and night. When you set your delight or affection upon a thing, that thing will consume you and preoccupy you. Delight comes first, then preoccupation is an automatic!

Delight will keep you in it! Delight will keep you consistent! Delight will keep the words running through your mind like a filter. Delight will keep you going back again and again and again!

If you went to a counselor with a serious problem – that you just weren’t happy and fulfilled, and it seemed like you couldn’t control your thoughts, and you told him all about how you felt, and he asked you: “How’s your time in the Word,” what would your response to him be?

Would you say: well, That’s a stupid question. Can’t believe someone would ask a question like that. When somebody has admitted to me they have not been in the Word of God, and I’ve suggested to them to get in the word of God, and remain there by delighting in it, they never disagree with me.

You could talk to pastor after pastor, and they will tell you that almost everything that is out of whack goes back to your relationship to the Word of God.

I just started going to a chiropractor. The theory by which he operates his practice is this: “when your spinal column – that which is your main lifeline to your brain is out of adjustment that will negatively affect many other things.”

Folks, when our love for the Word of God is out of whack, then that which is your main lifeline to your God and the will of God is out of adjustment, and that will negatively affect many other things.”

You cannot be happy and stay up without it! You will fall.

If you’re not happy tonight, then I can tell you, based on the absolute authority of Scripture that you’re either submitting yourself to something besides God, and/or you have not been making the Word of God your delight.

Possible Objections to What I’ve said:

  • I’ve tried to get into God’s Word and failed miserably. I’m just burned out. Failure to read it consistently.
    • It’s too late for me
    • I want to warn you, God is gracious enough to let us fall hard sometimes in order to drive us back to the Word.
    • The just man falls seven times and gets back up! GET UP! Try again!
  • I just don’t feel like I could ever love God’s Word. Your account in your delight bank is depleted. You’ve spent it on that which leaves you hungrier and robs you of your ability to enjoy what is right.
    • Sin robs you of your ability to enjoy the right thing!
    • The reason some of you in here tonight believe that you could never really delight and enjoy God’s Word is because you’ve been enjoying the wrong thing so long it has set your mind against the possibility of enjoying a good thing!
  • I never enjoy my time in the Word. Secret Sin or unconfessed sin, or a troubled conscience. When you spend your delights on that which is blatant sin against God, you squander your delights
    • Or, it could be that there’s nothing in you that really desires the Word. You need to get saved! You need the blessedness of Psalm 32:1 - Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. (KJV)
  • I don’t see the need for this.
    • Joy
    • Confidence
    • Peace
    • Power
    • You feel like you’re doing God a favor – give God a nod.

This “delighting” is not an option for the hot, happy Christian, who stays up!

Have you been falling? Have you been unhappy? How’s your time in the Word? How’s your attitude toward the Word? If you love it, you’ll be in it.

How have you been setting your delights and affections? Have you spent your delights foolishly? Do you need to get back up by humbly going down before God?

Why is the Christian who does not delight in God’s Word in a miserable state? Because that is a proud state because you’re ultimately telling God in no uncertain terms that the delights you’re enjoying right now are better than the ones He could give you. That’s pride! And when you are proud, you’ve got God resisting you, and you’ve got Satan who wants your destruction.

God is jealous! He’s not going to allow other gods that compete with His lordship in your heart.

So How do I get this attitude of delight?

  1. Submit yourself to God. Get out of verse 1 and into verse 2!

James 4:6-7 - But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (KJV)

  1. Pray for it!

God is not in the withholding business if it’s good for you. He’s in the withholding business only if your heart is proud before Him.

  1. Desperately want it! – Socrates
  2. Put yourself in the way for it! Don’t wait around for a zap! God works in a unique way. When you spend time in His Word, He blesses you with more of a thirst for that, and He increases your energies to do it!

Stop spending your affections and delights on that which will never truly satisfy. Come to God claiming Isaiah 55:1-2 - Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. (KJV)

Adding Fun & Excitement - Clubs e-Newsletter - June 2015

Crazy Summer Fun!

One of events the children at my church look forward to each year is Crazy Summer Fun! During the summer months we add more active opening games, review games, allow the children to dress up each week, and add refreshments (normally snow cones) on some nights. We have found this is a great way to combat other activities such as sport events, theme parks, picnics, etc. that are taking your children’s attention away from church attendance.

Each year we have an opening night to introduce the summer event, an annual whiffle ball tournament on the same week as the MLB All Star Game, and end with an end of summer/back to school celebration. Some of our favorite dress up weeks are:

·         Level Theme

o    Discoverers(dress in green or bring a flashlight

o    Developers (dress in red or bring a ruler)

o    Detectives (dress as a spy, police officer, fireman/arson investigator, etc.)

o    Defenders (also known as Patriot Pride/Military Night

·         Mexican Fiesta (complete with nachos or piñata)

·         Bible Character

·         Club Colors (dress in your club’s colors)

·         Crazy Color (how many colors can you wear?)

·         Tacky Tourist (dress as a wacky tourist)

·         Favorite Animal

·         Wacky Wednesday “You are created Uniquely You.” (Dress as wacky/clash as you wish.)

·         VBS theme night (knights, cliff climbers, astronauts, spies, etc.)

·         Sports

·         Patriotic Pandemonium (red, white, and blue)

·         Black Light – “Let your Light Shine” (black light activities)

·         Crazy Head to Toe (crazy hair and feet: socks or shoes)

Be sure to send home a flier with the activities for the next week, or post on your children’s ministry’s facebook group. (Did you know a facebook group or email group is one of the best ways to get information to parents? It works because parents actually see it where often times fliers do not make it home.)

Most importantly, have fun with the children learning God’s Word!

Outer Space Supremacy VBS ProgramOuter space tends to be an exciting and inspiring topic on its own, but it is also a well-suited context fantastic for expressing the Bible-based truths this program teaches. The Outer Space Supremacy special event program is all about the universally-relevant theme of God’s supreme-ness—His excellent character, unlimited power, unimaginable splendor, and matchless glory!

The materials for Outer Space Supremacy are available as a downloadable zip file. Purchasing the download allows you to use the program components and to modify them for your unique ministry. The Bible portions of the materials are available in KJV, NKJV, ESV, and NASB versions.

Kids 4 Truth’s program materials for special events are intended for use in Vacation Bible Schools, evangelistic and revival services, camping ministries, and other unusual scenarios. Because each ministry is unique in its size, people, and environment, the programs are very flexible. As the Director of the program, you may choose to use all the materials, or just select elements.

Year End Awards Pinning Ceremony

We would suggest a "Year End Award Pinning Ceremony" in front of the entire church congregation on either a Sunday or Wednesday night (whatever night your club normally meets).  During this ceremony each child who has earn his/her pin is called to the front and the small group leader or director pins the Award Pin onto the standard in front of everyone.  A year end certificate could be presented to the child along with the pin if desired.

Year End Pins:

Kids 4 Truth offers attractive pins as an option for those who would like to give out Bronze, Silver or Gold level awards.  The Year End Award pins are available in one design and in three colors: bronze, silver, and gold for you to distribute as you see fit.  The Award Pin should be worn on the standard above the Kids 4 Truth embroidered logo – to the left of the logo for year 1 and to the right of the logo for year 2.

Although we recommend the following criteria for earning the year end awards, each church may define the criteria they want to require for each award.  The award pins come in bronze, silver, and gold.

Level Completion Pins: These pins were designed to be awarded to a child who completes both TruthBooks of a level. These pins are also great for worker appreciation awards, and for promotion K4T to your church or community. There is one gold level completion pin available for each level:

Level 1 = periscope
Level 2 = level
Level 3 = flashlight
Level 4 = sword

The level completion pin is worn above the Kids 4 Truth logo and beside the gold, silver or bronze year end pin.

As always, we welcome churches to adjust the criteria needed to earn the level completion pin to the needs of their ministry.

Recommended Year End Award Scenario:

BRONZE AWARD

If the child achieves the first 3 patches for each Doctrinal Theme the club studies in the TruthBook, he/she will receive the Bronze Award at the end of the year.

SILVER AWARD

If the child achieves the first 4 patches for each Doctrinal Theme the club studies in the TruthBook, he/she will receive the Silver Award at the end of the year.

GOLD AWARD

If the child achieves all 5 patches for each Doctrinal Theme the club studies in the TruthBook, he/she will receive the Gold Award at the end of the year.

Year End certificates: are available pre-printed packets of 10 from the online store.  To make these certificates a little nicer we recommend adding a Kids 4 Truth Gold Seal Sticker to the bottom of the certificate on top of the seal graphic.  The certificate may be given as is, or may be presented framed.

Sports Nights

Children enjoy event nights that are centered around sports or events that are currently popular such as Super Bowl Sunday, Worlds Series, Worlds Cup, Olympics, etc. Planning an event night with one of these current events in mind is fun and exciting for both the workers and the children.

Several things to consider:

·         Allow the children to dress up for the night (football jerseys, baseball hats, soccer jerseys, etc.)

·         What sports event is currently popular with your children?

·         How detailed do you want? Games, Dress Up, Refreshments (hotdogs, natchos, popcorn, etc.)

Recently, we had a Super Bowl Wednesday event (Wednesday before the Super Bowl) that proved to be one of our most successful events ever.

Super Bowl Wednesday!

Supplies:

·         12 foam 4-6 inch footballs – in 4 colors (3 of each color)

·         1 huge box (refrigerator size box or larger OR use a piece of wood)

Prepare The Game:

·         With box/board in the landscape position, cut four identical size and shape holes across the box/ board)

·         Mark a throw line across the room about 6-8 foot from the box/board

·         Clock or Timer

·         Workers to count “goals” made

·         Worker behind the box/board to immediately throw balls back that have made it through the holes.

To Play:

·         Call children up to the throw line in groups of 4 (one at each hole).

·         Have a worker assigned at each hole to count the number of “goals” made by each child.

·         Give children 1 minute to throw and make as many “goals” as they can. Note: they must retrieve their balls themselves unless a goal is made and then the ball is thrown back to them as soon as possible.

·         At the end of each round, announce who is in the lead so that children know the number of “goals” needed to pass the leader.

·         Winner is the one who made the most goals in 1 minute. Either give the winner bragging rights or a prize.
